Hobson's Bay Yacht Club
About the Club
The Hobson's Bay Yacht Club has its beginnings in 1888, when a lease for a section of land was granted. Members of the club are predominantly residents in the Western and North-Western Suburbs of Melbourne. The Members have built a significant percentage of the club fleet and only a few boats are professionally maintained. For this reason Hobson's Bay Yacht Club is known amongst the five major yacht clubs as the "Working Mans Club". That so much has been achieved by voluntary labour over the years adds to this perception and many Members accept it with a degree of pride. This is unlikely to change.
