The Eight Metre is one of the lesser known classes built to the Uniform Rating Rules.

As the first ever true international sailing class, the formula of the Metre yachts has been of a paramount importance to the development in yacht design. The Eight Metre yachts have always been considered as elite, very fast, very beautiful and very expensive. They were used mainly for racing and short cruises.

There are approximately 180 eight meter yachts sailing today.
