Commonly known as the "Skate" this sailing dinghy has an awesome reputation for wild rides and exhilarating speed.

The Skate is sailed in three states of Australia. NSW, WA & SA. Although boats still exist in Victoria they are not sailed regularly and tend to be of an older design. 

This class is one of the original performance development classes.

Started sailing VJ's at age 12. Experience with Skates in Vic. Many seasons keelboat experience.

1956 The Skate designed by Vince Minter and J. Herrick.
1971 Hull redesigned and widened.
1971 Fibreglass first used.
1979 Foam sandwich first used.
1983 Spinnaker and mailsail size increased
